Focaccia Bread (Italian flatbread)



ingredients:

1+1/2 cup flour (whole wheat or all purpose flour)

1+1/2 tsp instant dry yeast (check your package instructions to activate the yeast)

1 tsp sugar

3/4 tsp fine grain salt (use a little more if you are using kosher salt)

2 tbsp olive oil

1/4 cup + 2 tbsp warm water (the water should be blood temperature)

1/4 cup warm milk (blood temperature)

Garlic paste (from 2-3 cloves) or 1/4 to 1/2 tsp garlic powder(depending on your flavour preferences)

1/2 tsp oregano or Italian dried herbs

Toppings of choice (tomatoes, olives, rosemary, chives)



Method...


-- Take a bowl put warm water, sugar and Yeast. Mix it n keep it aside for 10-15 minutes. The yeast will froth up.


-- Meanwhile in a big mixing bowl put the flour and make a well. Inside the well put Olive oil( 2 tbsp), Salt, Garlic powder, Oregano. Now put the active yeast mixture in the centre. Add milk too. make a soft dough.


-- Leave dough in a warm place (like microwave) undisturbed for an hour.


-- After one hour  punch the dough few times and deflate it.


-- Now take a baking dish, grease it with Olive oil and spread the dough in the whole dish. Now apply oil on top of dough and poke holes with your fingers in the dough.


-- Now on top of the dough spread the toppings of your choice. 


-- Again cover it with the wet cloth on top of the dish and leave it undisturbed for half an hour... It will again double-up in size.


-- Now bake it in a preheated oven at 180'c for 35 mins.
